Journal Of LEUKOCYTE BIOLOGY (JLB)
I created the cover artwork for the Journal of Leukocyte Biology (JLB) (Vol. 116, Issue 1, July 2024) which celebrated both indigenous Mexican heritage and immunology concepts. The image is based on an Otomí woman from Amealco, Querétaro creating a Lele doll. Lele dolls are traditional, handmade Mexican dolls known for their colorful dresses, braided hair, and vibrant ribbons.
The artwork accompanied the review “Concepts in B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia pathogenesis” by Clarissa Garcia, Megan D. Miller-Awe, and Dr. Matthew T. Witkowski. In the article, the authors highlight critical determinants of B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) tumor suppression and leukemic cell survival. The authors included a special section dedicated to the Mexican Society of Immunology, whom they collaborated with on this research.
